Brown University Distance Learning Program

The Distance Learning Program (DLP) of the Addiction Technology Transfer Center of New England (ATTC-NE) was chartered in order to extend the reach of addictions education to the World Wide Web and beyond. Coordinated through Brown University's Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies, this unique learning initiative first began in March of 1997 and has continued to flourish ever since.

Brown DLP contacted Stoller & Company to revamp the organization's web presence in order to streamline operations and allow for increased growth. Stoller & Company, one of our design firm partners, tasked SLS with creating a web-based course management system for Brown DLP.

The course management system streamlines many of the organization's operations, such as:

  • Students and instructors can register for courses online.
  • Students can pay for courses online. The system integrates with Brown University's proprietary credit card authorization service. Brown DLP no longer has to worry about paper checks.
  • Students enrolled in a course are automatically given access to the course's protected website. The protected website has homework assignments, a forum, assessments, etc.
  • Administrators at Brown DLP use the system to create new courses and manage the progress of all students in said courses.
