Health e-Lunch Kids Launches

SmartLogic Solutions announced the delivery of new interactive ordering and operating systems to improve services for Health e-Lunch Kids (HELK). (HELK) delivers healthy lunches and snacks to school aged children. Parents use the Internet to select and pay for meals.

One year after HELK initiated its school lunch service, SmartLogic Solutions (SLS) delivered two new web based applications to enhance services and boost efficiency.

New Ordering System

Development of the new ordering system followed extensive surveys and user discussions. Presenting a fresh design loaded with new capabilities and enhancements, the redesigned ordering system enables families to order healthy meals that kids enjoy. Customers can:

• Select exactly which sides they want with their entree
• Subscribe to get a different lunch each day automatically
• Create an “express” order in just a few clicks
• Manage all their orders on a 30 day calendar
• Easily access upcoming orders and past order history

Web Based Administration System

SmartLogic Solutions also provided a new administrative system which improves life for administrators behind the scenes at HELK. Employees use the new operating system to manage daily lunch menus, create reports for delivery trucks, manage customer information, and other business functions.

Currently operating in the Washington Metropolitan Area, HELK’s business concept has shown strong market interest, and the company is actively pursuing investment partners to ensure solid future growth. The new application built by SmartLogic Solutions provides HELK with a scalable order and administrative capacity thereby setting the foundation for strategic growth into multiple geographies.

SmartLogic Solutions built the entire ordering and content management systems using Ruby on Rails - a web programming framework that speeds up development. Judicious use of Ajax made the system more interactive and responsive to user input, while not overwhelming customers.

Beveridge Seay, an award-winning branding and communications firm based in Washington DC, designed the application. Beveridge Seay provided SLS with wireframes, XHTML and CSS mockups of every web page.
