Web Widgets
A Web Widget is an embeddable chunk of code (also known as modules, snippets, and plug-ins) which adds dynamic content to a web page. Widgets have been used since the beginning of the Web. However, the recent proliferation of web widgets on blogs and social networking sites has amplified the importance of this technology.
For example, Facebook has recently exposed an Application Programming Interface (API) enabling marketers to engage Facebook members with interactive games and other entertaining applications. The creative use of widgets now provides access to the Facebook platform with its enormous branding and marketing potential.
Widgets are becoming a distribution or marketing channel for many companies. The embedded code delivers live content – advertisements, links, and images. Widgets provided by SLS offer the flexibility to change embedded content remotely via the use of a content management system.
In the evolving Web 2.0 world, widgets are enabling marketers to reach new audiences who appreciate the addition of interactive content on an otherwise static webpage. Widgets provide a powerful new tool to capture the attention of web visitors and build brand awareness.
SLS clients can also use web widgets to improve their websites using syndicated content and functionality from third party providers.
